DIY Ikea Billy Bookcase Hack
Creating Built Ins for Our Home Office…
The first project for our home office makeover was this Ikea Billy Bookcase hack. I needed some more storage for decorative items that I’ve been hoarding (I mean collecting…) that I wanted on display. We had this unusual gap at the back of the room that was perfect for creating some form of a built in. However, as with everything, it needed to be renter-friendly. Enter this Ikea Billy Bookcase hack.
This was one of the easiest DIY projects I’ve ever worked on. As you’ll be able to see on my YouTube Channel, it took no time at all and looks incredible! To fit the gap, I needed two of the 80 cm Billy’s and one of the 40 cm Billy’s. There was still a gap between them which I decided to cover it with a few pieces of wood. It gave the built ins some dimension and detail that makes it look even more custom.

To complete the built ins, I painted them with Farrow & Ball Oval Room Blue and cover the top with some butcher block wood. The result is a classic, coastal grandmother look that has completely changed the space. It’s added depth and character to this room. I’m so happy and can’t wait to show off the completed space soon.
