Our Hallway Makeover
It’s Finally Completed!
What a labour of love this hallway makeover has been. What started as a project at the end of August took almost three months to complete. This was down to our effort being shifted towards the building of our coffee shop. Towards the end of November, it was my mission to complete the hallway makeover before the end of the year.
Prior to this makeover, there has been another one. That wasn’t to the same extent as this one, as you can see from this blog post. That hallway makeover was to just bring it to a neutral, to match the rest of the home. Over time, it became a dumping ground, long overdue a change to make it more functional and inviting.
For me, this was the start of what I’m calling the final renovations. After much consideration, my husband and I have decided we’re going to be in this home for a little while longer, so we are going full-throttle with the makeovers. This hallway now truly reflects exactly what I’ve wanted to create in our home and I’m so happy with the results.
The Hallway Makeover.
The main thing that took the most time was making the faux built-ins, using Ikea furniture. I’m so glad that I took on this DIY (more on this in an upcoming blog post) as it feels more grown-up and a nice focal point in such a small area. It’s also nice to put everything out on display, I’ve had my collection of Vogues hidden in the attic forever. Now, they are out for everyone to see.
Along with this, I wanted to add more personal photographs, hence the amount we have out on the bookshelves. It’s such a sweet moment to pass them on our way out of the bedroom and be reminded of great times. Included at this moment is the start of my vintage art collection. I’ve been desperate to get rid of the mid-century prints (which are lovely but not in keeping with our interior style anymore) and I knew this gallery moment was it. Not that this gallery wall wasn’t a challenge, as you would have seen from my latest YouTube webisode, this was certainly the trickiest part of the hallway makeover.
Paint Options & Finishing Touches.
As this was the start of the elevated makeovers, I started as I meant to go on. And that meant using the right paint in our hallway makeover. As I wanted a cohesive look throughout our home, I went with Good Intentions by Coat Paint for the bookcase, which is the same paint colour in our kitchen. I also included David Rose black paint on the bannister and a refresh of white on the spindles.
Another finishing touch that was important to me was replacing the light shade with this one from La Redoute. I also invested in some nice fabric for the bench cushion, new throw pillows and decorative objects from Hudson Home.
I do hope you love this makeover as much as I do and I can’t wait to show off more of the room makeovers in the new year.
