Where to Stay in London: The Hoxton Holborn

An Stylish Stay in the Heart of London…

When Lee and I went down to London a couple of weeks ago (check out my highlight on my Instagram Stories to see the full adventure), I made a point that we had to stay at The Hoxton Holborn. I’ve wanted to stay at a Holborn hotel forever and as it was a special trip for us, I knew that we had to book.

The Hoxton Holborn is part of a collection of hotels across the world. The Paris hotel is one that I’m desperate to stay at (maybe soon). The interiors are gorgeous, the facilities are amazing. Ideal for what you want in a hotel stay.

If you’re planning a stay in London but are unsure of where to stay, here’s my guide to the Hoxton Holborn and why you should consider it…

The Location.

We decided on the Holborn location instead of the Shoreditch location due to how central it was. However, something I didn’t realise was how central it was. Kings Cross is a 15-minute tube ride with a direct line and Holborn station is a two-minute walk away. Oxford Street is a straight walk, you can easily get to Selfridges in half an hour. Convent Garden is about a five to ten minutes walk away. There’s also some amazing bars and restaurants, you’re really spoilt for choice.

If you’re planning to stay within zone one of London, then this hotel is your go-to. You’ll be able to get around easily and with the station being on some of the main lines (Central and Picadilly) it’s a great jumping point to explore the capital. Personally, Lee and I have decided it’s our go-to hotel if we’re staying in the capital from now on unless we’re sticking to a particular neighbourhood.

The Hotel.

The hotel is actually the old British Telecoms building, so the design takes inspiration from this. It’s industrial, with an added bit of glam. It feels very 1930’s, which I love, one of my favourite periods of style. The clash of modern with vintage is perfect, my design brain was buzzing with ideas. There are great seating areas, ideal for meetings, relaxing and working, along with the bar and restaurant (more on that later).

Something else to note is that the hotel is dog friendly. Now, I don’t have a dog myself (hopefully in the future) but it’s a nice thing to note if you are travelling with your furry companion.

The Rooms.

There are many different room types to suit your budget. Ours that we stayed in was the cosy-up and it was ideal. Big enough so you didn’t feel like you were in a shoebox, but not too expensive. All the rooms have large comfy beds, wooden floors, and industrial finishes. I love that in our it was warmed up with the velvet of the headboard, the contrast with the dark wooden furniture was perfect. The whole design was making me think about how I want to design our home, so you may see some elements in future makeovers.

The room also came with a Roberts radio, old fashion telephone, a safe under the bed and a little hidden tea and coffee station on the desk. What’s also interesting to note is the artwork featured in the rooms are by local Central Saint Martins students, an art university that I actually almost went to.

One of my favourite sections of the room was the bathroom, which made me gasp with delight when I first saw it. It’s so modern, a delight to get ready in. The walk-in shower is huge with a rainfall shower. Blank toiletries are also provided which are so luxurious that you don’t have to worry about bringing these things with you in your suitcase.

I honestly couldn’t recommend the rooms enough. Personally, I think when we stay in the Paris Hoxton hotel or come to London again, we’d go for a Roomy room. I like a bit more of a seating area, especially if I need to do any laptop work.

Amenities, Food & Drink.

Amenities wise, you can’t ask for much more than those provided at the Hoxton Holborn. The staff were so friendly, nothing was too much. They even recommended some cocktails at the bar for us to try out which were delicious.

Food and drink wise, Rondo will not let you down. It’s the restaurant and bar located in the hotel, perfect for enjoying a quick breakfast. Breakfast is made to order, no buffet breakfast. Can I suggest the NNduja scrambled eggs on sourdough toast? The perfect way to start the day. Drink-wise, there’s a mixture of classics and twists. I love anything with tequila so, of course, had to try out their version of Paloma. It was heaven, an ideal way to end the day.

For the coffee lovers out there, be sure to pick up an on-the-go latte. Hotel coffee is never the one, but not at the Hoxton Holborn. They use Origin Coffee, which I’ve had confirmed by my coffee shop owner husband that it was some of the best coffee that he tried.
