DIY Vintage Stool

A Piece I’ve Wanted in My Home Forever…

I’m so happy to finally reveal my DIY vintage stool. This is a DIY project that I’ve wanted to do for ages, but I’ve been waiting till we started the bathroom makeover to create this. I always knew I wanted to put a stool in my bathroom so I had to sit patiently until we started work to create it.

This DIY vintage stool was so easy to make. In all fairness, I had already worked on something seminar with the vintage bench that I created for our bedroom. However, I went about distressing this stool a little differently from the bench. Whilst I used the sander in the same way as last time, I decided to purchase a wire brush attachment to see if I could give it some edge. The results were rather surprising. Whilst to begin with I didn’t see much difference, once I started to stain it you could really see the ageing process come out.

When it came to the staining, I went about it in a similar way that I did with the breadboard project. I mixed up the stains, starting with a dark oak stain and then topping it with a walnut stain. This was a combination I did with the breadboard but the finish was completely different to the breadboard. It just goes to show that no piece of wood is the same, even if it comes from the same section of the store.
