DIY Ceiling Clothes Dryer
Combining Style with Practicality…
I’m so happy to be showing off this DIY ceiling clothes dryer (and also a sneak peek into our laundry room makeover). This space was in desperate need of additional drying stuff, something to stick some of our clothes on so that it was out of sight, out of mind.
Now, originally I wanted to use something that came off the wall, this would also provide additional storage with the shelf. However, when it came to our Victorian home walls, this was too heavy. So, it was back to square one and figuring how we could take advantage of our tall ceilings.

Now I had one in mind, however the one I wanted was too large for our home. So, I decided to give DIY-ing the ceiling clothes dryer a go. Now, this involved a lot of new skills that I had never tried before. The one that really scared me was metal work, it would involve me cutting metal down to fit the space, as well as drilling holes to attach the dowels to the bar. Now that I’ve done it, it was so easy. I could happily do more projects involving metal work.
The other part of this project was attaching it to the ceiling. This was a little harder to do, as our ceiling isn’t all one level and took a lot of working out. If you watch the YouTube webisode of this DIY, you’ll see that it was a little back and forth but so worth it.

Interesting, but….
You never did show where the pulleys were connected.
You did not mention the metal dimensions (except for length). It would be nice to know how wide and thick.
The prior comment also relates to dowel size, rope size, ring size. These sizes would be helpful to match the appropriate drill bit size.
Otherwise, it’s simple and appears to be easily done. My first thought would have been to screw the dowels in rather than glue as that adds more support/strength. If you don’t get back to me, I’ll progress ahead and use my thoughts on the construction.
Thank you.
