Adding a Little Magic to Your Cocktails…

To be honest, I struggle to call this a recipe post as there really is no recipe to it. However, over the Bank Holiday, I had too much fun creating these with some leftover edible flowers I had from a wine and cheese night I was hosting. I’ve always wanted to have a go at making some DIY floral ice cubes and thought well, now’s my chance.

As much as you don’t need a recipe to make these, it’s surprising the lack of information there is on the internet about how to actually make them. As you can see in the image above, it took a few attempts and ultimately it depends on what look you’re going for. So, whilst this is not a DIY floral ice cube recipe with detailed instructions to follow (it’s really just pouring water into ice cube trays and add flowers), I asked on my Instagram Stories if anyone was interested in a blog post on the subject and you all said yes. So, no recipe. However, here are my tips for getting the most gorgeous DIY floral ice cubes for your cocktails.

DIY FLORAL ICE CUBES.

The trick is the water level and where you place the flowers. At first, I filled them up to almost the top of the mould and then added the edible flowers. This had them at the top, but not completely covered. For the next set, I filled the water up halfway, added the flowers, freeze until solid, add more water and then leave overnight. This created the cubes that have the flowers fully encapsulated in the ice cube. Now, these are pretty, however, you can’t fully see the flowers. I feel that the happy medium would be to fill the tray three-quarters of the way, place the flowers in, freeze and then top up. This would allow for the flowers would be fully inside the cubes, but you could still see them.

I feel like it’s worth noting you need to use edible flowers. You can’t use dried or pressed flowers, it really won’t work for what you want to create. It’s got to be edible which you can quite easily pick up at your local supermarket.

I do hope this post helps and inspires you to create your own DIY floral ice cubes. I can’t wait to add mine to summer cocktails when I’m having friends over.
