House Warming Gift Inspiration
Something magical to celebrate with someone you love…
I think in the time we live in right now, buying a house is such an amazing thing. It’s something that Lee and I are aiming to do one day and recently, my good friend Lucinda has just brought her first home. I couldn’t be more proud and happy for her. It’s an amazing aachievementand I cannot wait to see how she designs her home. And with your friend buying a new home comes with treating them to a house warming gift!
House warming gift ideas are quite hard to come by. As most of us have rented before buying, we’ve already to the ‘traditional’ gifts you’d usually buy (toaster, kettle). People also have their own unique taste or want to change their interior style with moving into a new home. So I always feel bad buying a decor item in case it goes against their interior tastes. It can be a minefield, but there are some great gifts that you can get someone.
Firstly, the traditional gifts. Yes, this person may already have a kettle. But they may have had that kettle for 5+ years and an upgrade would be amazing. Ask the person and see if they wouldn’t mind a brand new Smeg kettle in their new home. Don’t be afraid to ask, gifts don’t have to be a huge surprise. As a person who’s bad a faking the ‘wow, this is amazing’ face, I really appreciate it when people ask me what I want first before buying. That way, I get something I need, you don’t waste your money. It’s a win-win situation.
Another good house warming gift idea is to go for the food/ beverages. A bottle of their favourite spirit is always welcomed, and will look great on the new drinks cabinet. I would be so happy if someone rocked up with a bottle of gin at my new front door.

Then there’s the trusty gift card. I know people feel that gift cards are not a thoughtful gift, but I think they are ideal for a house warming gift. Especially if you get them for one of their favourite home stores (Zara Home and Anthropologie for me). It allows them to pick their own thing a spurge a few pennies that they might not have done. It also gives that person time to think about what their interior taste, rather than being rushed into something.
Candles. Candles are another great house warming gift idea. I mean, who doesn’t want their new home smelling amazing?!
Finally, let’s talk about buying decor items. Whilst I said no at the beginning, I do think that if your friend has been going on about a particular item, then if you fancy treating them to that item. I also love the idea of getting them a decorative useful item, like a spatula or a beautiful brass utensil set. Anthropologie is great for these sort of items!
I hope this inspired you, but for some extra inspiration, here is more house warming gift inspiration for you…
